Your Editing Career Launched 2.0 is designed for editors at any stage of their career. Whether you’re considering a career change or have already established yourself as an editor, this course will help you develop the essential skills and knowledge you need to become a successful editing professional.

The Editing Skills for Academics course has been created to help academics and postgraduate students develop vital capabilities to support them in their academic careers. This is an industry-specific course for individuals in academia and is not intended for people looking to start or grow a career as an editor.

Your Editing Career Launched 2.0 does not require prerequisite study, so you don’t need to have completed a degree to enrol. For those who require a little more support, we offer an additional preliminary learning module to provide you with the basic skills and knowledge required to start the course.

Editing Skills for Academics is designed for academics and postgraduate students, so students are expected to have some familiarity with the conventions and standards of academic writing.

All our courses are delivered online, which means you can start whenever you like! There’s also no time limit on completing your course, so you can register today and start your studies in a few weeks, a month or later in the year.

Your Editing Career Launched 2.0 students receive four months of live support to help them throughout their studies, so reach out to the team to put your support on hold if you would like to start later than your enrolment.

While all our courses are designed to be completed over a set number of weeks, your enrolment grants you unlimited access to your course content. This means you can learn at your own speed and complete your modules, exercises and assessments at the time and pace that suits you best.

Everyone learns at different speeds, so the time you’ll need to complete your course will depend on your individual circumstances.

In general, we advise setting aside 15 to 20 hours per week for your studies. For most people, this will allow them to complete the course within the suggested timeframe.

All of Capstone Editing’s editor training courses are delivered online. Each module contains a video lesson recorded by our expert presenters, plus a range of additional resources such as course readings, exercises and slides. Some units also contain bonus resources like checklists, planners and guidelines.

Our flexible delivery method makes it easy to fit your learning around your schedule and complete your course at the time and pace that suits you best.

To complete our courses, you’ll need to have a computer or laptop and a reliable internet connection. As many of our downloads are presented in Microsoft Word, you’ll also need to ensure you have access to Microsoft Word for Windows.

Our courses are designed to be fully self-contained, which means all the resources you need are included in your course fees.

We do occasionally provide suggestions for further reading for those wishing to extend their learning on certain topics or modules. However, these are recommendations only, and you won’t be required to purchase additional resources to successfully complete your course.

Successful graduates of our courses receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of their course. Students who complete Your Editing Career Launched 2.0 but do not pass the final exam can opt to receive a Certificate of Participation.

As one of the most highly regarded academic editing companies in Australia and New Zealand, we’re proud to say that our courses are widely recognised across our industry. Capstone Editing’s courses are the only non-university editor training courses recommended by the Institute of Professional Editors.

To attain national accreditation for our courses, we would need to significantly alter the course content to meet accreditation guidelines. This would mean teaching our courses at a lower level, which would limit our ability to give you the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in this profession.

For that reason, we have made the conscious decision not to accredit our courses at a national level.

The Your Editing Career Launched 2.0 course is designed to comprehensively prepare you for the final exam so you can be assured that your units and modules have set you up for the best possible chance of success!

The final exam is a three-hour open-book exam. You’ll be asked a variety of questions, including short-response, medium-response and multiple-choice, and you’ll also be asked to complete some practical editing tasks.

To help you feel as prepared as possible, we provide you with a practice test to complete before you take your final exam.

To successfully pass the exam, you’ll need to receive an overall score of 70%, with a minimum score of 60% in each of the three sections. You’ll also need to have completed the course in its entirety before you can sit the exam.

There’s no need to worry if you don’t pass your exam on the first try. If your score is below the 70% required to pass, you can purchase another four months of live support, review the course materials and resit the test again at a later date.

Alternatively, if you’d rather not sit the exam again, you can choose to receive a Certificate of Participation. Remember, even if you don’t pass the exam, you’ll still have ongoing access to all the course materials, which you can revisit whenever you need while you establish yourself as a freelance editor and build your successful business.

All successful Your Editing Career Launched 2.0 graduates are guaranteed work on graduation through Capstone Editing, Australia’s leading academic editing company.
