Contemporary feminist political economy and feminism as a sphere of analysis emerged through the women’s movement in the 1970’s. Feminist political economy is concerned with bringing women’s economic role and contributions to the fore. This was necessary as the two dominant theories—neoclassical economics and Marxian political economy—were seen as unable to provide a framework to consider how gender relates to the economy (Tong, 2009: 116). This short paper will outline why neoclassical economics continues to be incompatible with feminist political economy analyses. It will be argued that feminist political economy is not incompatible with Marxian political economy.

Our rigorous approach to Indigenous editing

Capstone Editing’s approach is based on recognising and respecting the rights of Indigenous peoples, as stated in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We have developed a thorough Indigenous editing process guided by the principles defined in the AIATSIS Code of Ethics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research. When working with Indigenous clients and research, we take our responsibilities under the Code extremely seriously. This means integrity is central to everything we do.

How we follow the AIATSIS Code of Ethics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research

  • Indigenous self-determination
We recognise and respect Indigenous rights, diversity, worldviews and knowledge and train our editors in cultural safety. We check that all Indigenous research and stories we edit are based on meaningful engagement and informed consent.
  • Indigenous leadership
Our editing process recognises that all work involving Indigenous peoples or their lands or waters must involve Indigenous decision-making, participation, methods, perspectives and knowledge. In addition, it is essential for First Nations voices to be represented when the findings or stories are communicated.
  • Impact and value
We also recognise that work involving or affecting Indigenous peoples must be aimed at benefiting—not disadvantaging or exploiting—those peoples and that all stakeholders must fully understand the potential benefits and any risks.
  • Sustainability and accountability
Sustainability means being accountable for future as well as current effects. In particular, we recognise that the work we edit must respect Indigenous peoples’ needs for ongoing connection to and rights over their lands and waters and for truthful, culturally safe communication.
