What is essay editing?

Essay editing helps ensure that your essay is logical, polished, well organised, error-free and guaranteed to impress!

You can submit your essay to your university with confidence after Capstone Editing has comprehensively edited it for you. Many of our professional editors are academics and have taught at universities, supervised students or examined theses, so they possess a deep understanding of the requirements of academic writing.

Our comprehensive university essay proofreading and editing services will improve your document by correcting and standardising your grammar, language, formatting, referencing and more. In addition, our essay editing service includes suggestions regarding how you can continue to improve your academic writing in the future.

The benefits of essay editing

All students face the pressure of meeting essay deadlines, and sometimes it’s just not possible to finish writing about your topic and find time to also perform your own thorough essay proofreading and editing. Further, the relationship with your essay that you develop over the course of researching your topic, refining your ideas and crafting your arguments means that it is difficult to step back and obtain the distance required to view your essay objectively as a whole (and spot errors and inconsistencies). This is exactly how our professional team of editors and high-quality essay proofreading and editing services can help you.

Whether English is your first or an additional language (e.g., students whose first language is not English—English as an Additional Language [EAL] or English as a Second Language [ESL] clients*), our expert academic editors provide essay editing services that can help you achieve academic success. Academic writing requires a very special skill set and demands a thorough understanding of many specific writing, formatting and referencing rules. For ESL postgraduates and mature-aged students returning to study after many years, the conventions of academic writing are often difficult to master. Therefore, these students can benefit greatly from the assistance of our native English essay editors and academic proofreaders.

Even the work of high-performing native English-speaking students can be significantly improved through our meticulous editing and proofreading. Taking advantage of the knowledge and experience of our essay editing and proofreading experts will allow you to succinctly demonstrate your research and understanding of your course material and ensure your arguments are well presented.

Your specialist academic essay editor will:

  • Objectively evaluate your work to determine what is required
  • Correct grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation
  • Improve your essay’s logic, clarity and flow
  • Ensure all your references are correct and consistent
  • Perfect your formatting ready for submission
  • Provide detailed advice and feedback regarding essay writing

Contemporary feminist political economy and feminism as a sphere of analysis emerged through the women’s movement in the 1970’s. Feminist political economy is concerned with bringing women’s economic role and contributions to the fore. This was necessary as the two dominant theories—neoclassical economics and Marxian political economy—were seen as unable to provide a framework to consider how gender relates to the economy (Tong, 2009: 116). This short paper will outline why neoclassical economics continues to be incompatible with feminist political economy analyses. It will be argued that feminist political economy is not incompatible with Marxian political economy.

A year- old boy presented with complain of abdominal pain . The given case report illustrates a case of anaemia that, after investigation, was found to be a case of sickle-cell anaemia. Many investigations of blood were undertaken, including a complete blood count, haemoglobin electrophoresis test and blood film examination. These initial investigations showed, a decline in haemoglobin count, red blood cell (RBC) count and haematocrit, and an increase in mean cell haemoglobin and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration levels were found to be increased. Red blood cells (RBC) not only appeared a less number but they also exhibited anisochromasia, their shape was abnormal, they appeared sickle shaped and boat shaped appearance, with polychromasia. The first diagnosiswhich came up revealed anaemia, but the differential diagnosis also includes sickle-cell/β thalassemia and sicklecell/ haemoglobin C disease. In this case history, clinical examination and the case presentation delivered a great deal of knowledge in diagnosing the disease. FAQs

Frequently asked questions about essay editing

Essay editing is a specialised type of editing for academic essays. An essay editor will identify and correct errors and inconsistencies in grammar, spelling, language, formatting and referencing. Where appropriate, they will also identify issues in content, presentation and flow.

When hiring an essay editor, you should seek an experienced and qualified academic editor. Not only will they be competent and comfortable with editing your work to the utmost standard of academic excellence, but they will also ensure your work is handled in accordance with the ‘Guidelines for Editing Research Theses’ and meets ethical best practices.

The cost of editing your essay will vary depending on its length, requirements and your desired deadline. Documents that have a high word count, require extensive revisions or have a quick turnaround will cost more to edit.

Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process and is intended to check for minor, surface-level errors in spelling, punctuation and consistency within a document. Conversely, an essay editor engages deeply with an academic essay to provide corrections and guidance in matters of grammar, clarity and style (among many other things!).

Therefore, essay proofreading should not be considered a substitute for essay editing and is only suitable for documents that have already been professionally edited.

It is highly recommended that you edit your own essay multiple times throughout the writing process. Self-editing helps you refine your writing, clarify your arguments and identify errors in your work.

When editing your own work, your first edit should focus on your document’s content and structure. Critically analyse the information in your essay, making any changes necessary to improve the way your content is organised and how easily it can be understood. Once you are happy with your content, perform another edit to look for language issues, like spelling, grammar and punctuation.

When editing your own work, it is important to take frequent breaks. It is also helpful to read your work aloud, as this can help you identify errors more easily. You can find more information on how to refine and polish your own essay on our blog here: Part 5: How to Finalise and Polish Your Essay

A thesis statement is a short declaration that outlines the core argument of your essay. Thesis statements are usually just one or two sentences in length and should clearly and concisely inform the reader of the author’s position.

If you have been given an essay question, your thesis statement should directly answer this. You should keep returning to the core argument presented in your thesis statement throughout your essay.

You can read more information about how to write a thesis statement on our blog here:

The Elements of a Strong Introduction: A Quick Guide to Undergraduate Essays

ESL (English as a Second Language) is commonly used, but we prefer EAL (English as an Additional Language)—and we’d like to explain why! We believe (and many agree with us) that ‘additional language’ is more respectful than ‘second language’ because it avoids implying a hierarchy of different languages or that a person might be less fluent in any particular language. Also, ‘second language’ might be factually incorrect if you speak three or more languages!
