Contemporary feminist political economy and feminism as a sphere of analysis emerged through the women’s movement in the 1970’s. Feminist political economy is concerned with bringing women’s economic role and contributions to the fore. This was necessary as the two dominant theories—neoclassical economics and Marxian political economy—were seen as unable to provide a framework to consider how gender relates to the economy (Tong, 2009: 116). This short paper will outline why neoclassical economics continues to be incompatible with feminist political economy analyses. It will be argued that feminist political economy is not incompatible with Marxian political economy.

Frequently asked questions about thesis editing:
Yes. Without question, we are the most experienced postgraduate thesis editing company in Australia. Our editors have edited thousands of PhD and master’s theses in a diverse range of fields for students at every university in Australia and New Zealand and many overseas. Whatever your area of study, we have an academic editor with relevant editing expertise.
Yes—with pleasure. If you are eligible for university funding to help with the cost of having your thesis edited, we can provide a formal quote or tax invoice for you to submit to your university as part of your funding application. If the funding does not cover the full cost of editing your thesis, we make it easy for you to pay the difference. We also provide payment plans because we understand that students’ finances are often limited.
Note that you should not assume that a university grant will cover the entire cost. This is stated in the ‘Guidelines for Editing Research Theses’, which explain that it is because ‘the cost of editing a thesis depends on a range of factors that affect the time needed for editing, including the quality of the writing and the length, complexity and presentation of the thesis’.
Yes! We will ensure your thesis contains all the necessary sections in the correct order, and we will create all the required preliminary pages, including the table of contents and the lists of tables, figures and abbreviations. Your edited thesis will be in submission-ready format.
Universities require postgraduate theses to meet international publication standards. These standards can only be achieved through professional editing, regardless of the quality of an author’s writing. Even clients who are exceptional academic writers are often surprised at how much their work is improved by our Premium Copyediting Service.
Because your thesis is a long document and you have been working on it for an extended period, it is likely to have become very difficult for you and your supervisor to notice errors, inconsistencies and areas that could be improved—the kind of problems that could mean you are required to make corrections after examination. A fresh pair of eyes, especially those of a highly experienced professional, can find all these problems for you! With the help of Capstone Editing, you can be 100% confident that your thesis will be polished and well presented.
Yes! In fact, universities encourage it, although the idea that they do not is a common misconception. Universities typically provide postgraduate students with funding for academic editing, and many PhD and master’s supervisors require candidates whose first language is not English to have their theses copyedited before submission. This is unsurprising—it is in a university’s interests that its students’ research is presented as well as possible and has the best possible chance of passing examination.
Of course, universities have strict ethical requirements for thesis editing. In 2001, the Deans and Directors of Graduate Studies collaborated with the Council of Australian Societies of Editors (the forerunner of IPEd, the Institute of Professional Editors) to create the ‘Guidelines for Editing Research Theses’. In a further collaboration in 2010, the Australian Council of Graduate Research and IPEd revised and updated the Guidelines, and they were updated again in 2019. All our editors adhere strictly to these Guidelines when editing theses. Therefore, you can be certain that our editing of your thesis is ethical and professional and meets your university’s standards.
Thesis editing is a specialised copyediting service designed for university students. Professional thesis editing should only be performed by trained academic editors who understand and adhere to all relevant ethical and university-specific guidelines for thesis editing.
A thesis editor will carefully check your document to identify issues of grammar, spelling and punctuation. They will also verify that your document is internally consistent, ensure it adheres to the relevant style guide and cross-check your citations, tables, figures and appendices.
It’s vital to choose a thesis editor that knows and adheres to the ‘Guidelines for Editing Research Theses’ or your university’s specific guidelines. Under these guidelines, editors are not permitted to provide substantive editing services on theses, as this can be considered a violation of academic integrity.
ESL (English as a Second Language) is commonly used, but we prefer EAL (English as an Additional Language) at Capstone Editing. We believe (and many agree with us) that ‘additional language’ is more respectful than ‘second language’ because it avoids implying a hierarchy of different languages or that a person might be less fluent in any particular language. Also, ‘second language’ might be factually incorrect if you speak three or more languages!
